I’m very grateful to be cancer free. I know how lucky that makes me. The carousel I’ve shared isn’t about denying that. It’s about the bit after, which has been harder than I expected.

I know sharing this side of things isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok. There will be flowers and light again soon. Just bear with me for a moment.

I don’t usually ask people to save or share things. But if you know someone who might be in this stage, or supporting someone who is, and this might help them feel less alone, please do.

I decided last minute to share it here too because it feels like the easiest way to let people know and because this is where I’ve shared what’s been happening

I’m very tired and very grateful - preparing for the journey I have ahead - and quietly recovering now.

I’ll probably sign out for a bit 🤍 So much love xx

5 days post breast surgery - the pic I promised - and still working out what recovery feels like.

It’s such a mixed bag.
Some mornings I wake up in my new stripey pyjamas (small joys!) and think, OK Cass, You’ve got this. I’ll holler to my butler Albert for coffee … he’s been brilliant, though I do keep wishing he’d jet- wash the patio while he’s got “time off.” I pad downstairs and feel oddly proud just for being vertical and vaguely functional.

And then the next hour will drop out of nowhere when the soreness feels bone-deep, everything hurts when I move, and I’m exhausted. There’s such a pull between wanting to get on with life and realising my body has other ideas.

And then there’s the moment you look under the ugly surgical bra…Looking at my breast and seeing something both familiar but changed. It’s a jolt - a glaring reminder of what’s been taken, and what might still be there. Ten long days until results, and living inside that waiting is harder than anyone tells you.

I’ve also been debating whether to keep sharing here. I’ve noticed the unfollows - and honestly, I don’t blame anyone. Cancer is uncomfortable. It’s raw. Some people want flowers and beauty and colour , not drains and fear and pathology reports. And that’s OK.

But this is my life right now. And if speaking out helps one other person feel less terrified or less alone, then that matters more than numbers. This space has always been about light and dark. Beautiful things and real things. And truthfully - writing helps me. These days are long, and your messages and replies feel like company.

I’m genuinely considering a one-armed flower arranging demo to cheer us all up?! I’m left-handed, so I’ll be attempting it with my wrong arm and only one hand. What could possibly go wrong? At the very least, I’ll make you laugh (and possibly myself cry), but it’ll pass the time!!

So that’s where I am:
Stripey PJs. A grumpy-but-excellent ‘butler’ Healing body, messy emotions.
Hope and fear doing a see-saw dance.
Ten days to wait.
Still here. Still showing up.

My lovely Dad @andrewking285 is 84 years old today! We can’t be together this year whilst I’m in bed recovering, but this pic of us together makes me so happy - at my floral installation: The Red Room, in homage to my time working alongside #davidlynch in the 90s for #strawberryhillflowerfestival2025 in September last year @strawbhillhouse guest curated by @gaiaerosflorals.

My beautiful and wise friend Chloe (@sevensistersspices ) said to me in a message yesterday :
“Life is all about light and shade, the remarkable thing about the shitty dark bits is all the light it throws on other areas.”

And for me today these images sum that up:

My wonderful dad and how much I love him,
The power of creating - and how my work, even bouquets, always ends up being about shadow, dark and light,
And the truth that we’re altered by every person we make with - collaboration is letting yourself be changed, and leaving something behind. There were friendships and relationships new and old on this project that stay strong with me today and help me move forwards past my illness and diagnosis. You know who you are ♥️. This was absolutely the most powerful and best part of a not so great 2025 for me. My somewhat drug induced recent dreams have been full of it - And I plan to share more of it and the brilliance of those who helped me while I recover as I didn’t at the time.

Still sore, sleeping a lot - but doing ok! Love love love to you all…

And happiest of happy days my wonderful Dad! I love you forever and ever. Xxxx

Ps. Just realising as writing how much I would like this piece to be shared and seen again wider… Maybe as part of a bigger David Lynch retrospective? Or in an appropriate public space? It’s entirely doable as the florals are hand preserved with wax - both real and recycled eco faux. Let me know if any ideas…. X

So it’s finally time to get that invasive little fu€$er removed!
Classic hospital gown selfie taken today in the nuclear department while I had my sentinel node scan done before surgery tomorrow. I got lucky with the light and the camera blur as it’s probably one of the better pics taken of me over Christmas and new year! 😉. Ah. The irony right?!

So tomorrow I have the lumps removed plus a couple of lymph nodes to check for spread and stage of cancer. They also take a margin of healthy tissue around the lump which is tested. Because the lumps are small and the mammogram caught it early, we are hoping I will be all clear … but I’ve come to realise with a diagnosis, the worst part is the inevitable waiting between each stage of treatment and diagnosis. Hard. Results come in 2 weeks later. If that’s all clear, then recovery followed by radiotherapy and then hormone therapy.
If not, then potential additional surgery/masectomy and chemo. One day at a time…

Christmas and New year was pretty hard I won’t lie. Because my cancer is hormone driven, I had to come of HRT pretty suddenly … which coupled with my ADHD was a bit of a heady mix … let’s just say emotions ran high….😳

Refusing to plan work or next steps of 2026 til I know where I am with the post surgery results in a couple of weeks. But whatever happens physically I’ve about a gazillion plans bubbling up my sleeve - amazing work opportunities to get better for in the spring and summer - a couple of new biz ideas I’ve been waiting for space to get going on - and a family trip to plan post Otts GCSEs. I’ve had strict instructions to rest for for a few weeks … I’m not too good at sitting still!

I’ve had so so many beautiful messages and people checking in. Those of you who know me, know I am a big hugger, wear my heart right on my sleeve, love hard - and want to be loved hard back. And I’ve felt that. So very much. Your messages, and your love and cheers for me have brought me incredible happiness and joy - I’m sorry if I’ve not been able to reply to you all. It has meant everything.

Happy Christmas 🤍
I’ve been sitting with a lot this month - slowing down in a way I haven’t for years. It’s made me want to say thank you properly, because the support from you this year has meant everything.

2025 has been hard. Getting a diagnosis has brought a strange kind of clarity, and it’s made me notice the beauty I’d been rushing past in this world, in friendships, and in how precious time really is.

I’ve surgery booked for 7th Jan, which has given me the first real pause in years, as well as time to actually flower my own home this year…! So I’ve shared some of my floral corners and our rose and carnation tree (drying naturally in the branches and smelling delicious ), because I know how much we all love a good old snoop😉.
More than anything, the act of making -both for myself and for those of you who’ve ordered online this year - has been a calm, grounding distraction when I really needed one.

This afternoon I’ll be sitting in front of the fire with my dad, watching It’s a Wonderful Life. The closing line by Clarence right before he gets his wings is “Remember no man is a failure who has friends” …. and ain’t that the truth.

Thank you for the work, the trust, the shares, the messages - all of it. I don’t take any of it for granted.

Wishing you a calm, beautiful Christmas - however you’re spending it.
And thinking of those of you who find this time of year hard, for whatever reason.

A smorgasbord of the last immense 10 days.
To let you know now that ALL my candles and diffusers and the remaining wreaths ( pictured here) will all be sent out next day delivery FREE OF CHARGE up to the Christmas cut off.
If you are in Twickenham or Teddingtom we will deliver FOC - or you can collect.

My health updates are that I’m now waiting for additional tests to come back early this week to let me know if and when I start chemo.
If I escape this part then breast and lymph surgery is booked in for first week of January. With more testing and radiotherapy and hormone therapy ahead of that.

So I’m unashamedly plugging my creations while I am still able to work. One day at a time my end. After Christmas I’ll be out of action for a bit….

In no special order … photos are : floral party designs for clients, Cosmo the cat giving me kisses and catty smooches ( they sense when we are low) an @annahaymandesigns cushion I have on my christmas list of wants; my painting by @geraldineswayne which I love more than words and she’s exhibiting in Bond Street I think this month, candle creations which I can still make for you all this week - and candles on our tree.

If you’d told me six weeks ago I’d be standing under this installation feeling lighter, happier, and actually myself again… I’d have laughed. Or cried. Probably both.

Closing the shop so suddenly — because the landlord decided I had to be out — was fucking brutal. The timing, the stress, the sheer madness of emptying the whole place in days… But in truth, even without having to leave , the support just wasn’t there. Not from the council, not for independent retail, not for the community we were trying to continue to build for you all…

And here’s the saddest irony: I feel better now. Properly better.

After my ADHD diagnosis last year totally knocked me, I didn’t realise how thinly I was stretched. Stepping away from the shop has given me actual breathing room. My head is clearer. My energy is steadier. My creativity has exploded. I’m designing again with excitement, not exhaustion.

And my home studio? I’m so bloody incredibly proud of it. I worked like a maniac for four weeks — and it’s now a beautiful, warm, calm space to work in and welcome you in for private home commissions. And I’ve already completed several large installs and events from here without that constant shop stress sitting on my shoulders.

In the new year, we’ll also be using an additional off-the-street studio for the really big builds as we grow — the best of both worlds.

There is sadness. When I opened the shop, my dream was to build community on the high street — a welcoming, creative place people could wander into. Flowers and beauty genuinely make people’s lives better, and I wanted to bring that into everyday life.

Watching Stanley Rd struggle under the council’s 10-hour resident-only parking scheme has been heartbreaking. Some shops have gone, others are clinging on. @richmond_council have a lot to answer for — real people and families are being affected.

I’ll never say never to having a shop again, but not until things change. Right now, it’s simply not workable.

The photos are from my recent install for Bon Vivan — work that reminds me why I bloody love what I do.

Special commission this week for the Producers of Moulin Rouge @moulinmusicaluk who celebrate 4 years of the show and it being the longest show ever @piccadillytheatre.
ALL real and preserved - even that superstar gold rose taking centre stage. Preserved red roses, eucalyptus, amaranthus and ruscus - Moulin rouge style!
IMO this is absolutely the coolest way to gift florals… as they’ll last longer than your ex (!)… plus don’t just end up in the bin a week later…

Recycling and reusing to turn the front of @bonvivanartisancafe in Teddington into a magical Christmas Partridge in a Pear Tree.
Layering over the top of our base install that stays up all year round, we make seasonal changes to the front of owner Stani’s lovely cafe.
With the world being as shite as it is right now, this year I’ve gone uber soft and romantic with the design… we all need fairy dust and sparkles in our lives right now, right?
I really enjoyed creating this in the winter sunshine - especially as I got a chance to see so many lovely local faces from up the ladder I’ve missed seeing since moving studio and closing the shop - despite being incredibly happy with my new space and the freedom it’s given me to design more. A right royal floral design for the amazing people at Brinsworth House and the @royalvarietyperformance. Some of you know my Dad is at Brinsworth House and we are unbelievably lucky. They are the most unbelievable team and the care and love and support he gets is incredible. It’s like a ( slightly bonkers) extended family with the residents and gorgeous staff alike…🥰. The florals were designed for the main stage in the theatre living room there. Red white and blue obvs, with a little bit of a razzle dazzle in the bow tie and some musical show biz adornments. It’s lovely seeing them in pics of the amazing performers that go to speak and perform there with them( snaps here of the amazing Dame Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter and @claresweeney22). The charity does incredible work for all and everyone who works and has worked in the entertainment business fallen in hard times … and tonight if you are super quick productions tickets have just gone online on sale!

Part 1 - Red Room, Strawberry Hill Flower Festival 2025 :

In 1996, as a young woman, I was invited to work with David Lynch on the set of Lost Highway. After filming, he asked me to stay on and work on post-production from his home and studio in the Hollywood Hills.
This very personal installation is inspired by the filming of the burning hut in Death Valley on a night shoot – a sequence that has since become an iconic moment in his work. Working with David showed me that there was strength in strangeness, and gave me
the freedom to see difference as possibility.
It grew from my own story, but also from the generosity of others who have given their time, voices, and objects. Shaped through my neurodivergent mind, and the difficulty and trauma of late self-diagnosis - the journey of this installation ( the burning and filming of the hut with the people I shared the experience with), became an act of both remembrance and renewal. Beauty and strangeness will always coexist.

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I exhibited amongst some of the UKs most insanely incredible and talented floral artists with my installation Red Room Highway s
I’ll do some follow up posts to this as it was a multimedia install and there’s too much to say and to share here with the incredible collaboration I had to make it happen. Honestly the highlight of my floral career to date … being amongst my floral heroes and artists sharing our stories through flowers.

Starting more formally before I share the emotion of it all in a later post and the story of the amazing film of the hut as we burnt it by the wonderful @iamcharlygautier and the on set never seen photographs by @matthewsomorjay as well as the floral processes I chose to use.

It’s been a tough couple of weeks with dad back in hospital having his knee replaced and some post surgery complications. More crazy hallucinations accompanied by inappropriate utterances and comments (making his thankfully one fellow room mate blanch in horror… 😳) and chest and kidney infections and a lot more worry for us all last week especially …

But he’s tough my dad. It’s hard to believe a year ago he was in the same hospital recovering from a massive stroke. And 18 months ago in Dumfries hospital for several weeks with a hip break and delirious.
But today back at Brinsworth again, Max had him up and walking on crutches and we all went out and ate ice cream and sat in the sunshine.

Dad you drive me fucking insane. ( I know I do you too 😜) … but my love for you is immense. Forever and ever and always and always.

Summer makeover for @bonvivanartisancafe in Teddington.
Perfect example of how at Immortal Botanica we keep repurposing and upcycling our installs for our clients - saving ££ and using florals sustainably. Using florals already sourced from another job we’ve layered gorgeous summery blues and whites over our Autumn / Winter design. After summer is finished ( of god, let’s not go there yet … ☹️) - these florals will be packed away ready for next year or reused for other designs - revealing Autumn at lovely Bon Vivan once more…
We repurpose everything. If the blooms look shabby, we clean them, repaint them…faux florals should never be single use. Ever. And that’s what we do best with businesses that care. Gonna keep beating that drum! 🥰

MIND CHARITY - a concept designed by me for a special event held in London Borough of Richmond recently. @mindcharity @rb_mind

Today marks the end of mental health awareness week… A week set aside to remind us that mental health struggles are real and nothing to be ashamed of. And I know this because it’s part of me being me. It’s no secret that I’ve faced depression and dark times, and I live with ADHD…Sometimes it feels overwhelming to navigate a world that doesn’t always understand how my mind works.

One of the things that has helped me find light in the darkest moments is my art and what I do. My business has become more than just a creative outlet – it’s a way for me to express emotions, find calm, and connect with others through beauty and storytelling and people. Working with flowers grounds me, it gives me purpose…even on the shittest of days. And to have been able to find that makes me incredibly lucky.

That’s why this week matters so much. And I strongly believe that my sharing and being open and honest about my own story is important. People still find it so hard to open up, they feel unnecessary shame which in turn makes us feel more alone. Breaking the stigma, sharing our stories and talking openly about mental health isn’t easy, but it’s powerful. It helps us heal, connect, and support one another.

All our feelings are valid, and all of our stories matter. The unique and incredible ways we are made up are what makes the world so incredibly bloody beautiful right?
Sending all of you who suffer so very much love and let’s all keep talking and being open. With zero shame …because that’s how healing and change happens. xxx

I’ll be heading to Scotland to visit my mum in her care home who sadly has dementia with the family.
As with any small business, I won’t be stopping working and am still taking enquiries and answering emails. But while it is quiet, the shop and studio will be shut. I’m still around locally until Saturday and taking meetings so do call if you have an urgent ask.

Neutrals corner in the shop/studio. We dont just do colour! 🤣. Its been an absolutely insane 2 weeks with a big event for a wine launch, Mother’s Day, a big charity event for Mind and today a special commission for the @olivierawards - and I’ve done it solo which has been a LOT. I’ve a gazillion images to share which I will do in the next couple of days, but in the meantime am just posting this… easy peasy, pure and simple and made me happy as my view while I ate my lunch today here!
The sun is shining and I’ve got to say I’m really really looking forward to hanging out with friends this weekend, spending some time on my own home and in the garden planting up some containers … and just stopping for 2 minutes. NOT complaining. I’m very lucky. 🥰. Next week is last week in studio before we shut for Easter week. Heading up to Scotland to see my mum. Happy weekend all of you!! Have a bloody good one!! ❤️❤️❤️

Concept designed for @rb_mind and @mindcharity for a special event this week.

Today I’ve made up 15 different ‘mind’ floral vases symbolising the beautiful and diverse and unique make up of all our individual minds - no matter the space they may currently be.

I was honoured to be asked to help on this … As many of you know I’ve faced my own ups and downs ( most likely co-morbidities of my own ADHD brain) and sometimes my own head has not always been filled with the colour of the flowers I am lucky to work with but much darker spaces . The work this charity does is so necessary.

The vases will be on sale after the event for all of YOU - and money raised to support @rb_mind ( with or without the florals ).

This crazy colourful mind was a simpler one to make and uses gorgeous dyed feather grass - or #styphapennata … it’s like trolls hair right?! (and no comparisons to my own unruly locks please! 🤣).
